Mobile broadband has revolutionized our Internet experience. As more and more people are logging on to the Internet on the go, the need for a faster connection has become imperative, what with all the music downloads, video streaming and other Internet activities that consumes bandwidth. Thanks to mobile broadband, the bandwidth that is being delivered to consumers increased. Broadband actually refers to a term that pertains to a wide array of frequencies in a certain transmission system. If the bandwidth is larger, so does the frequency.

In general, the whole idea of having a broadband connection is to have a "high-speed" connection to the Internet. Being "high-speed" means having a high rate of data transmission. But too often, the mobile broadband speed of a Internet service provider does not measure up to what is advertised, leaving broadband users frustrated. While there are legitimate reasons for slow data transmission, such as traffic management or software on the computer, there are times that a slow mobile broadband speed is unacceptable and is due to poor service.

What to do about this? The first thing you may do is check your mobile broadband speed. It is important to determine the speed of your mobile broadband in order to calculate the necessary steps that you should take. The best way to check your mobile broadband speed is by using a credible speed checker.

Checking your broadband speed is easy, quick and most of all, it's free. You may do so now if like. This website gives you the opportunity to know your mobile broadband speed. Take note that it is to your advantage to test the speed of your mobile broadband. Annoyed that your every download takes so long to be finished? Always having trouble streaming music and videos to your computer or mobile device? Put the speed of your mobile broadband to the test to see if your Internet service provider is true to their promise.

Once you have checked the speed of your mobile broadband and find it unsatisfactory, give your broadband provider a call. Find out if there is anything they can do to improve your broadband speed. You may need to upgrade your modem or have a technician check your line. If there's no improvement you have the right to file a formal complaint to the company. You have the option to take your case to the small claims court in accordance with the Supply of Goods and Services Act if actions were taken but you are still not satisfied or the company failed to act on your official complaint. Or you may just want to switch to another broadband provider if all else failed. Check out the market for Internet service providers that offer faster and reliable speed. Ask around to find out if these providers deliver on their promise before signing up with them. Just always remember that optimum broadband speed is rarely achieved accurately so the thing to consider is which provider gives the most consistent speed.

XBOX 360 vs. PS3: an in Depth Look

All gamers are awaiting the release of the Xbox 360 and the PS3. This article takes an in depth look at how the two systems compare.

Graphics:

Everyone has seen an Xbox and a PS2 in action and we are all waiting to see which of the two next generation consoles for the two systems will have the edge when it comes to graphics. We have all seen the screenshots of the games on the two systems but what about actual gameplay graphics. Despite the hot debate, when you look at the numbers the two systems use a different but equally effective method of delivering graphics processing power. The XBOX uses a custom ATI processor with 48 graphics pipelines and the PS2 has a custom NVIDA graphics processor with an estimated 24 pipelines. The numbers are misleading because the PS2 piplines are more powerful than the XBOX pipelines. In the end the two different graphics processors will deliver about the same amount of power, we can expect to see impressive results from both sides.

Games:

Both systems have several franchise titles such as Halo2 for the XBOX and Gran Tourismo for the PS2 that you will see in the next generation systems, but what other games can you expect to see. If you are a fan of genres such as role playing that are dominated by Japanese and other foreign developers such as Square, you should look forward to the PS3. There is no indication that the XBOX 360 is going to gain much more support from foreign developers and buyers than the original XBOX. An article on GameSpot.com reports that only two percent of Japanese gamers are interested in buying an XBOX 360, with sixty percent looking forward to the PS3 and eight percent to the Nintendo Revolution. Overall you can expect to see more games on the PS3 than the XBOX 360, reflecting the selection for the current generation systems. Only time will which console will have the quality of games which all of us are been expecting

Media Type:

Will the media storage type be a factor in the quality of the games? Since PS3 is owned by Sony and BLUray is Sonys next high definition storage medium, the PS3 games will be stored on the BLUray discs which hold approximately 54 gigs. The Xbox 360 games will be stored on Double Layer DVDs which store 9 gigs. Obviously the BLUray discs can store a lot more data, but at the current stage of game development, any game developed will fit just as well on the 9 gig DVDs, so this is not a major factor but one that may come into play later on.

Processing Power:

How do the two systems compare when looking at brute processing power? The PS3 uses a Cell processor with a PowerPC-based core with seven synergistic processing units while the Xbox comes with a Custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three dual-threaded cores that can handle six total threads at a time. An important comparison to look at is the number of dot product calculations per second the systems can perform. The reason this number is important is because it is used extensively during gameplay in 3d math to calculate various things such as vector lengths, projections, transformations, and more. Both systems are clocked at 3.2 Ghz. The PS3 can handle 51-billion dot product operations per second and the Xbox can handle 33.6. There is a debate over which system has more brute processing power and these numbers can be confusing to the average person, but overall it seems that the PS3 has an edge over the Xbox when it comes to overall processing power.

Media Type:

Since PS3 is owned by Sony and BLUray is Sonys next high definition storage medium, the PS3 games will be stored on the BLUray discs which hold approximately 54 gigs. The Xbox 360 games will be stored on Double Layer DVDs which store 9 gigs. Obviously the BLUray discs can store a lot more data, but at the current stage of game development, any game developed will fit just as well on the 9 gig DVDs, so this is not a major factor but one that may come into play later on.

Games:

When considering games, you have to look at the XBOX and the PS2. The XBOX is very popular in the US and has a few great franchise games such as Halo, but the PS2 has an international reach and several popular game franchises such as Gran Tourismo that the XBOX has yet to beat. The XBOX 360 will need to appeal to foreign game developers and consumers to compete with the PS3. Only time will which console will have the quality of games which all of us are been expecting

Controllers:

The controllers on the two systems retain the basic shape from the original systems with some modifications. The PS3 controller has the most dramatic change; it has a streamline shape that looks more like a stealth airplane than a game controller. The XBOX controller is basically the same shape as the previous system with a different color scheme. From the pictures released, it seems the XBOX controller will be more comfortable and natural to use. The PS3 controller looks like it would just slip out of your hand but we will not know how the controllers feel during actual gameplay until we get our hands on them.

To start with Nokia 5800 can be proud of coming up with a touch screen phone internet connection speed test an Xpress Music feature, while running on a Symbian S60 operating system with GPS. Whereas, iPhone 3G has an additional support of GPS and 3GHSDPA fast data. With an official SDK, iPhone 3G can be ran on P1 new version of software. Although it has the screen, camera, OS and memory similar to Nokia 5800, Nokia has features of 3.2-inch 640360 pixels display, 3.2MP camera, WiFi and 3.5mm jack.

Physical Threats to Apple iPhone by Nokia 5800 Xpress Music
If you consider only the outer shell, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music scores over Apple iPhone. Nokia 5800 boasts a slim striped texture that has withstanding power. Whereas, Apple iPhone which initially came up with metal, shifted to glossy plastic; anytime vulnerable to wearing, scratching and losing its charm.

Nokia 5800 is the shortest out of the two. The iPhone measures 115.5x62.1x12.3mm (133 Broadband Speed Test against Nokia 5800 that measures 111x51.7x15.5mm (109 g), which is just 3 mm thicker. But, it is the Apple that wins on the assembling design and quality. As the result, the iPhone 3G is more sturdily built and gorgeous.

Memory
Apple iPhone takes a backseat here, as the storage is limited to either 8 or 16 GB, going by its version as compared to Nokia 5800 model that has extendable memory up to 32 GB.

Package
Nokia 5800 surely scores high as it comes with a desktop tripod, a travel case, a broadband speed meter input mediator device, an 8 GB memory card, a TV cable, a USB cable, a headset. Whereas, iPhone 3G is stuffed with a cradle, a USB cable, a primitive headset and a brand wiping cloth package.

Equipment and connections
Apple iPhone is not provided with memory slot. It has a 3.5 mm audio jack and a firmware charger slot that can also be used for synchronization. But the Tube is equipped with the standard micro USB, 3.5 mm headset connectors and a memory card slot that ranks higher than iPhone.

Battery Life
The Tube has won in this case with a massive standby time of 406 hours and talk time of 8.45 hours. Are you a music lover? Then you can listen to your favorite tracks on MP3 continuously for 35 hours. On the other hand the Apple has a standby of just 300 hours. However, it has a better talk time of 10 hours. It also broadband comparison 24 hours of continuous music at MP3 mode. You can very well guess for yourself which will be a better choice for you.

Camera
Nokia 5800 utilizes a quality 3.2 MP as compared to Apple iPhone that is equipped with only a weak 2 Mp camera. Nokia has an auto-focusing camera having a potent flash and Carl Zeiss optics. This combination makes the camera one of the best that you can have on your handset.

Keeping many factors in mind along with the price (The tube is incomparably cheaper and unlocked to every service provider), the Nokia 5800 Express Music is quite a leader in many features when compared with the Apple iPhone.

The iPhone 3G and Nokia 5800 join many new music orientated mobile phones for release this year, for information on these and other new models please feel free to visit our website - Phones Limited.

Cycling in China

What about cycling in China? Is it possible? Is it crazy? Is it really not as difficult as it seems? China is not a country, it's a continent, I sometimes tell people. China is also the country with the most bicycles in the world although Holland has probably a bigger density of bicycles per head of the population.

Cycling is fantastic, there internet safety games be no doubt. But what about cycling in a country like China? There are two ways to approach the problem and they depend on the time you have available.

If you have limited time, say 3 or 4 weeks, limit yourself to one area, even a province like Yunnan is already as big as France or Texas. However, if you have time on yourself, you can easily spend a year, even two in China. Even in two years you will not need to do roads double. China is huge.

What to bring

China is a cheap, apart of the big cities. Most of what you need in terms of clothes you will be able to buy. In cities like Beijing, Kunming and Chengdu there are these days outdoor shops in case you need outdoor material. However, bring your own shoes as big size shoes are hard to find.

Good bicycle shops are rare. Your best choice is Hong Kong but in Beijing, Kunming and Chengdu there are some good shops. For ordinary repairs you will be able to find bike repairs at every street corner. Bike repair comes usually with a hammer and screwdriver. Tires are not difficult to find though you may get 2.10 inch tires with a lot of profile. These tires usually do not last more then 500 to 1000 km.

Where to start?

Where to start cycling in China? Beijing? Hong Kong? Shanghai? Personally I am not a fan of big cities but I admit, Beijing is a city you have to visit. However, I would prefer Hong Kong as a good starting point. In Hong Kong you can get easily a good Chinese visa, 2,3, 6 or even 12 months without a problem.

Another advantage of Hong Kong is that you can get Adsl Speed easy out! Take for example the boat to Zhaoqing at the other site of the pearl river delta and you are directly in the flatlands of China. I did the road to Guangzhou too but I would not recommend this. Read here why.

From here you can cycle to Yangshuo, still a backpackers paradise and worth a visit. In fact if you visit south China, Yangshuo with it's limestone mountains is a must and it's only about a week cycling from Hong Kong.

The great cycling areas in China

Where are the areas you absolutely should do on bicycle? Again it depends on time. I would say there are 3 distinct different areas to cycle in China.

  • Yunnan
  • Guilin area
  • Sichuan

This choice is arbitrary. Many cyclist want to cycle Tibet or Xian. Both are also fantastic but Tibet, with it's altitude is not an easy way to start your bicycle adventure. Xian has of course the fabulous Terracotta Warriors but in the Xian area there are plenty of other sites to visit, check my Xian page for those details. Cycling around Xian is good to do but, it is quite far from other areas with the exception of Luoyang.

Yunnan

Yunnan in south west China is probably the best and most well known province for cyclists. You can fly in to Kunming (international airport with flights from Thailand) and start your round trip here with a ride to Dali, Lijiang and Zhongdian (Shangri-La). But Yunnan has plenty of other excellent cycling areas

Baoshan, in the south west corner of Yunnan is fascinating. Baoshan borders with Myanmar. Around Tongcheng you will find geisers, the border with Myanmar is very different from any place you find further in China.

Xishuangbana is located at the border of Laos and it does see quite some tourists, mostly those who come or go to Laos. It's beautiful with many different minorities and plenty of natural beauty to discover. It's a 10 to 14 days bicycle ride to Kunming.

Much lesser known is north east Yunnan. Here's a good road, very scenic that leads to south Sichuan. I admit, this road may not be your first idea to cycle in Yunnan but if you are late, or too early in the season and you can not do the road out of Zhongdian to Chengdu, this road to Zhaotong and further to the Bamboo forest and eventually to Leshan in Sichuan is worth the effort. It will take about two to three weeks to cycle Kunming to Chendgu this road. Another option is to cycle from Kunming to Vietnam through Tonghai and Jianshui.

Guilin area

Together with Yunnan, the Guilin area is one of the most popular places to get a bicycle and go around. The best way to explore the area, Yangshuo, is anyway by bicycle. So even if you do not want to bring your own bicycle, you will most likely do a roundtrip on daily base by bicycle.

But if you are thinking of long distance cycling, it takes about 3 weeks to cycle from Guilin to Yunnan. Alternatively you may want to cycle to Vietnam. The road to the border will lead you to Nanning and then in a few days to the Vietnamese border. This road is maybe not very spectacular but it's worth the trip as few people ever travel along this road. Most travelers see the countryside passing by in busses and trains and the local Chinese see seldom foreigners in real life, which causes sometimes excellent experiences.

Sichuan

Last, but certainly not least is Sichuan. Cycling in Sichuan can be quite an experience you won't forget soon. Many cyclist come to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan to try to find their way into Tibet, a fair deal. However, if you are a bit late in the season, as I was at the time, you can have your Tibetan experience in a round trip west of Chengdu. A road that leads to Tibetan towns as Danba and Barkam and then back to Chengdu. On this road you will experience serious altitudes up to 4000 meter and typical Tibetan towns on the way.

The road north to Gansu is another great option. This road is well traveled. Less traveled but still interesting is the 2 week journey to Xian. This road will lead you through the north eastern flat internet cable tv to the mountains that separate Sichuan from the Xian. On the way you find some unexpected gems like the rock caves of Guangyuan, a seldom visited area similar to the caves of Luoyang.

Conclusion

China by bicycle is very good to do. Here are some additional tricks to make life in China easier. I say easier because cycling in China is quite easy these days. To make it easier, buy a provincial map in the Xinhua bookstores in the province you are cycling . These maps are usually much better in quality then the foreign produced maps and they give you the possibility to get easy in touch with locals as these maps are in Chinese characters. Together with for example the Nelles maps they are very useful.

Here is another trick I have regular performed with quite some success. Outside the tourist areas hotels can be dirt cheap and extremely good. What I usually do in those towns and cities is going to one of the more expensive looking hotels and ask for the room rate. Usually they tell me it's Y800 or Y1000 (US$1 is roughly Y8). Way too much of course. So I apologize and make my way out. 7 out of 10 the staff calls me back to offer me "discount". "You can have a room for Y100", and then the bargaining starts. Usually I can bargain it easy down to Y50 to Y70. In return I get then a great room, with bath and TV.

In Huangjiang it was even better, for Y100 I got a two rooms, with 2 big TV's, a sofa where at least 12 big fat people could sit on, a king-size bed and TWO bathrooms. I usually joke about this saying they gave me this suite because the staff understood my bicycle needed some rest too. This can happen in China, and I loved it!

Peter van der Lans is a Dutchman who lives these days in Sitiawan Malaysia. After years of traveling, he cycled from Holland to Malaysia, stayed a months in the Middle East, a year on the Indian Subcontinent and 2 years in China plus a year in the UK, he settled himself in Malaysia.

Sitiawan was the perfect place to write a website about Pulau Pangkor Later he wrote http://www.bicycle-adventures.com an ongoing project about his journeys on bicycles. A third website: http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com he recently build. In the years in China, he lived in Yangshuo and he thinks he can tell the story about this pretty little town in China.

High Speed Internet is a very important tool nowadays, especially for those who use the web on a daily basis, either for business or pleasure. No user who cherishes his time can stay on the old fashioned dial up connection any more. Finding the right internet provider though can be a daunting task, especially due
